Our Care Team

About Our Care Team

Our Licensed Midwife and Student Midwives work in a team to provide you with the most excellent and attentive care possible.
Each team member
has special expertise that they bring to your care, and has the ability to easily consult with the others if any kind of issue arises during your care.  All of the below providers will care for you throughout your prenatal care, birth, and postpartum visits.

Courtnee Firth, Student Midwife

Hello! My name is Courtnee Firth and I am a Student Midwife at Welcome Home Midwifery Services.

I began attending births in 2017 as a birth doula and had the pleasure of supporting birthing folks and their families in a variety of settings and had the opportunity to see different health care models at work. During this time I noticed that folks who chose midwives as their care providers tended to have healthier and more positive childbearing experiences and an easier time bonding with their babies and transitioning into their role as parents.

In the Fall of 2020 I began studying at the National College of Midwifery and supporting births as a Student Midwife at Welcome Home Midwifery Services. As a student at Welcome Home I have had the privilege of learning the art of providing accessible, compassionate, and evidence based care to birthing folks and their babies in our community.  My goal is to complete my academic and clinical obligations in order to become a licensed midwife by the Spring of 2023.

Outside of birth work I like to spend time outdoors with my family camping, gardening, or exploring local trails.

Courtnee works as a Primary Midwife Under Supervision with Welcome Home Midwifery Services, Inc.
This means Courtnee is in the final stage of her training prior to licensure, and leads all components of care within our practice under Madeleine's supervision.

Chloé Girot, Student Midwife

My name is Chloe Girot and I am a Student Midwife at WHMS. I was captivated by the topic of birth since I was in high school biology class. This eventually led me to Welcome Home in 2016 where I first trained as a birth doula. Attending births just solidified my passion for helping birthing people advocate for themselves and to support them by treating them with kindness and compassion during this vulnerable transition into parenthood. In 2017, I trained as a midwife assistant which just gave me more fuel to strive for my destined career to become a licensed midwife. Saying I love what I do would be an understatement!

Aside from having the best job in the world, I had the pleasure of participating in my own birthing experience in 2020. During my downtime, you'll find me playing with my little boy, cooking delicious treats, and doing yoga to reset my mind.

Chloé works as an Assistant Midwife Under Supervision with Welcome Home Midwifery Services, Inc. This means Chloé is learning how to perform midwifery skills and provides many components of care within our practice under Madeleine's supervision.

Denise Adams, Student Midwife

Picture
Hi, I am Denise Adams and I am a Student Midwife at Welcome Home Midwifery Services.
I have been attending births as a doula and helping families in the postpartum period since 2018.

While attending births in hospital settings, I began to notice a trend of disrespect for bodily autonomy, disregard for practicing informed consent, and the application of blanket solutions to everyone - regardless of the individual and their situation.
In response to this, I enrolled at the National Midwifery Institute in 2019 to begin my path toward becoming a licensed midwife to offer kind, intuitive, evidence-based care to those in my community, as an alternative to hospital settings.
My county is a maternity desert and I hope to change this by 2025.

In 2021, I began assisting at Welcome Home Midwifery Services alongside a great team who all strive to help people receive the care they deserve that aligns with their own beliefs and values. I encourage each person to make their own informed decisions on what is best for themselves and their babies, and hope that by doing so, they feel supported and empowered. I feel extremely fortunate to be a part of each and every person's journey who chooses WHMS. I am both humbled, and honored, to be invited to support them along the way.

I spend my free time with my two rescue dogs, Baloo and Sulley, glued to my side. We enjoy taking daily long walks along the orchards near my house. I love to spend time outside in the garden, both growing my own food and beautiful flowers for all to enjoy. As often as time allows, I will hop on a plane to go explore the country and all the marvelous state parks.

Denise works as an Assistant Midwife Under Supervision with Welcome Home Midwifery Services, Inc. This means Denise is learning how to perform midwifery skills and provides many components of care within our practice under Madeleine's supervision.

Desiree Leal, Licensed Midwife

Picture
My name is Desiree Leal and I am a Licensed Midwife with Welcome Home.
I have always been fascinated with birth since a young age. I attended UC Davis with the intention of working towards a career in the medical field but left UC Davis with a Film Studies and Theater degree. It was actually Maddy who introduced me to midwifery during our time as cheese workers at the Davis Food Co-op. I soon became fascinated with midwifery and, with Maddy’s encouragement, I started attending Midwives College of Utah in 2014. After a long journey that included bringing two beautiful daughters into the world, I recently graduated and obtained my midwifery license this year in 2022. I have worked with various home and birth center practices throughout the Bay Area and have been working with Welcome Home since 2017. I am excited to be able to provide care to the families of Welcome Home and looks forward to continuing to grow as a midwife with such an amazing team!

I love all things food related and can often be found in my kitchen learning a new recipe.
True to my film roots, I love watching movies in my free time as well as playing the occasional video game.

Madeleine Wisner, Licensed Midwife

Picture
My name is Madeleine Wisner, and I provide care to families as Licensed Midwife through Welcome Home Midwifery Services, Inc.
I also facilitate trainings for our organization's staff and help to oversee general operations of the organization with our Board of Directors.

I began supporting families as a doula in 2010. I became a doula because when families are supported by doulas during pregnancy and childbirth, these families tend to better advocate for their children, they have better and more secure attachments, and everyone seems to be more healthy. I decided to train doulas to support communities that otherwise did not have access to doula care.

In 2017, I became a Licensed Midwife (LM), meaning I am licensed
to provide midwifery care services (including prenatal care, labor and birth care, postpartum care, and family planning care) to families during the childbearing year. It's truly a pleasure to attend to families as their primary care provider during this special time.

The providers at Welcome Home often teach families for the first time what it means to receive nurturing, empathy, gentle touch, and helpful guidance. We remind families that their voices matter and that they are the experts on their own bodies. We help people ask their providers important questions, and we help families find answers and strengths they do not yet know they have. We help families find other people who also do all of these things. We normalize these behaviors for parents, then we sit back and watch parents normalize them for their children. We have the fortune of watching the world become a little more gentle, kind place one family at a time. I sometimes have to remind myself that my job is real life because it is just that special.

I love to cook and eat treats, spend quality time with my spouse and my daughter, and play with my pet bunny named Dennis Hopper.

Madeleine is a Preceptor with Welcome Home Midwifery Services, Inc. This means she is a fully Licensed Midwife who supervises Student Midwives. Student Midwives perform the majority of midwifery care at Welcome Home Midwifery Services, Inc, however as a preceptor, Madeleine is available to teach students, perform skills beyond the students' safe capabilities or capacities, and as an additional resource for clients.
